Chasing Rainbows (a poem)

You called me on the phone

and said put on some shoes

we’re going rainbow chasing.

We drove until we found

the best spot to park to view

all the colors and the perfect symmetry.

And we didn’t take out our phones.

Instead we took in the moment.

Just you and I sitting in the car

gazing up at something beautiful.

You said you thought of me

as soon as you saw it.

You know how much I love rainbows

and you just had to share it with me.

And I know one day when I am gray

it will be the sweet times like these

that I cling to and remember.

When all the big picture moments have

vanished with my fading memory

this will be what I recall.

All the colors and symmetry

and you sitting there beside me.
